The Turbine is in a class of its own and can’t really be compared to any other kite. With a super high aspect ratio, this is about as close to a foil kite as you can get in a LEI format. We coined the term “throw it don’t mow it” with the Turbine years ago, and for good reason. With most large light wind kites, simply getting out on the water about all they’re good for. The Turbine is a different experience altogether.
Turbine performance:
First and foremost, the Turbine is a high-powered shape with more pull per size than any other kite in our lineup. Steering speed is on the slow side (which is typical of all larger kites), but with power and efficiency on the upside, you get the same amount of pull from a smaller kite, which in turn translates to faster steering. The high aspect ratio performs like a wing in the air- jumps are long and lofty, loops are slow and deep through the window, pull is steady and powerful and the upwind drive and low-end efficiency is as good as you can get before transitioning to a foil kite.
The 2016 Slingshot Turbine redefines the meaning of light-wind kiting. With its
Open Delta C profile, five-point cascading bridle system, mini-strut
technology and optimized aspect ratio and leading edge diameter,
the 2016 Slingshot Turbine will not only get you out kiting in winds as low as
five knots, but you’ll have a blast doing it. This combination of critical
design characteristics favors ultimate efficiency and optimized control
and handling, giving the Turbine its renowned low-end power and grunt
while maintaining the turning speed and efficiency that makes it the
king of light-wind performance.
Back by popular demand for 2016, the Slingshot Turbine is offered in two sizes-
15 and 17 meter- to give riders the freedom and flexibility to fine tune
their light-wind weapon of choice. The 15 meter is designed for lighter
or more efficient riders, surfboard riders, foilers and slightly stronger
winds, while the 17 meter has the ultimate low-end range and a bit
more power.
At Slingshot Kite our philosophy has always been based on fun. Our
goal is to design gear that will get you on the water in any riding
condition. The 2015 Slingshot Turbine kite creates a new definition for what
is rideable by getting you up and going in wind speeds as low
as 5-6 knots.
We attribute the range and versatility of the 2015
Turbine to our proven Open Delta C platform and our 5-point
cascading bridle attachment system. This critical combination
creates a consistent smooth feel throughout the power stroke
along with direct bar input. Proven improvements include an
aspect ratio and reduced LE diameter that work together
to create more grunt and power without sacrificing turning
speed, efficiency or upwind performance.
The Slingshot Turbine Kite has our proven mini strut technology that makes it
a full structured five-strut kite. It achieves the same benefits in
the air with no hassles on the beach.
Customer satisfaction and feedback from our larger Turbine
riders has been so positive we added a new 15 meter! The
smaller Turbine is designed for light to medium weight riders or
riders that are very efficient. The Slingshot Turbine 15 combined with our
new foil board is a deadly combination in the lightest of wind.
The Slingshot Turbine kite is suited for those riders who want to go out in 5-6 knots and still have fun. But if you want to go beyond
just mowing the lawn you need a sophisticated kite. The new Turbine not
only gets you on the water first, it provides a performance ride and lets
you stay on the water even as the wind is pikcing up.
We’ve had
hard core freestyle riders like Eric Rienstra hitting kickers with
next to no wind and riders in coastal swell shredding from dawn to
dusk - all on the Slingshot Turbine kite.
Our progressive Open Delta C design has been updated with a new bridle.
We moved from last years 3 point LE attachment configuration to a new
5 point cascading bridle attachment system. This is critical for creating
a more consistent smooth feel through out the power stroke when
sheeting in and out with the bar. This gives you specific control over the
power which significantly increases range on the low end and high end.
Additional new improvements include a new lower aspect ratio that is
combined with a LE diameter reduction of 9%. The two work together to
create more grunt and power without sacrificing riding speed, efficiency
or upwind performance.
The Turbine has adopted our proven mini strut technology that makes
is a full structured 5 strut kite. It eliminates battens while offering
the same benefits seen with our reflex wingtip in our other Open Delta C
kites. To enhance rider customization we have added three additional
wingtip attachment points for the rear flying lines.
We at Slingshot South Africa believe we are usually blessed with strong wind, in particular the Slingshot riders in Cape Town, but at kite season end or kite season beginning you will enjoy this Slingshot light-wind kite. Or when you travel .. ask your Slingshot Dealer.
LIGHT IS RIGHT.
